Notes & Comments Page

This page is to be used for displaying the notes & comments of others who have shared Osgood information with me. The purpose is to share this information with all who are interested.

The first comment is about the Aaron Osgood Bible:
AARON OSGOOD, JR. BIBLE, in the possessicn of Mrs. Evelyn Ann LeMay, Whitehall, N.Y. 1954

NOTES: It seems possible that the piece of the page which was cutout may have contained a record of a 2nd marriage for Aaron Osgood, Jr. who m. Susanna Stow in 1782. Susanna bore a son, Jesse on Aug. 1, 1797; Susanna died Aug. 9th and the child died Aug. 25th. Below the record of her death are recored the births of three children in 1801, l803 and 1806 which indicate the possibility of a 2nd marriage to a woman unknown, the mother; of these three children.

There is a genealogy,- entit1ed "Descendents of John Christopher & William Osgood", E. Putnam, 1894.

The records in this OSGOOD BIBLE definitely refute statements made in the genealogy in regard to the several Aaron Osgoods, the genealogy having confused generations, particularly in the matter of marriages. Marvel G. Swan,

**Due to the various names recorded in the bible, it has been impossible to definitely place the orginal ownership. Since Osgood family records predominate it has been called THE OSGOOD BIBLE

This is a very old bible. fragile and brown with age. It went through a fire some years ago.
In 1941, when the bible was 200 years old it was used by the Baptist minister in Whitehall, N Y for a church service one Sunday morning.

The frontispiece of the Old Testament is missing The following appears at the beginning of the New Testament: The New Testament of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ Newly Tranlated out of the orgininal Greek and with the former Translation Diligently compared and Revised by his Majesty's Special Command Appointed to be read in Churches Edinburg Printed by Richard Watkins, one of his MAJESTY's Printer MDCCX--

Comment #2:
Regarding the spelling of the surname "Boehringer" -- The spelling of Bohringer, Boringer or Boehringer is common variations. The actual spelling of my ancestors was with an umlaut "o" and it is standard practice to indicate an umlaut by the vowel followed by an "e" to flag the German pronunciation i.e.: Boehringer.

I am not a member of this list, have no (known) connections to Osgoods. However, I have a typed listing of gravemarkers in St. Joseph Co., MI, cemeteries - probably about 80-90% complete. The following Osgood markers are in the Mendon Cemetery in St. Joseph Co., MI. I hope they may be of some value to one or more Osgood searchers.

Benjamin Osgood d. Aug. 9, 1863 71y
Laura, w/o Benjamin d. Aug. 16, 1879 83y
Leonard B. Osgood Sep. 6, 1830 - May 31, 1893

Good luck to you all. Bob King

#5 - Hello, I am not new to genealogy but am new to searching the Osgood genealogy. I recently had a breakthru on my Annis line in Newbury Mass and discovered I have Osgood's in my direct line as well. I am looking for parents, siblings etc regarding a Hannah Osgood. She married a Carleton-he died and no issue then she married Abraham Annis ca 1692 Newbury. Abraham died in Haverhill Mass ca 1738-assuming Hannah is there also but not finding info on her-yet. Abraham parents were Cormac(Charles)Annis and Sarah Chase Annis dtr of a Aquilla Chase-all early settlers of the same area - Newbury and Haverhill and that is why I am wondering is she (Hannah) a relation to your family history. If you can add to what I am looking for would certainly appreciate a reply-certainly enjoyed your background on the history of the Osgood's from England. Thanks

Nice, nice. I'm a descendant of William Osgood, Sr. (ca1605-1699). His daughter Mary Osoogd (1648-1705) m. Deacon Thomas Currier (1646-1712). Their son Capt. Richard Currier (1673-1747) m. Dorothy Barnard (ca1676-1765). Their son John Currier (1704-?) m. Mary Johnson. Their son John Currier (1748-1834) m. Mary Poor. Son Jacob Currier (1787-1845) m. Elizabeth Smith (1786 - 1844). And it's their daughter Elizabeth B. Currier (1832-1921) who was on the Oregon trail in 1846, and was part of the 1st wave on the Applegate Cutoff). Elizabeth B. Currier m. James Foster (1827-1909). Her quilts are famous, some included in Cross' "Treasures in the Trunk." And her youngest daughter, Lula, established the Schminck Museum in Lakeview, Oregon -- now connected with the OSSDAR. I'm the granddaughter of Lula's brother, John Amsden Foster. My dad was Earl Lawrence Foster (1891-1938). As note, another descendant's wife, Teressa McClellan Foster, wrote "Settlers in Summer Lake Valley" -- an incredible read on Elizabeth Currier Foster's trip to Oregon. And her and her family's life there. Teressa was my 3rd grade school teacher in Summer Lake, OR. and a joy of a teacher. She's 77, and lives in Paisley, OR.
Wonderful of you to put your data on the Internet.
